Cover crops can be terminated by breaking (crimping) the stems. The crimped stems cut off the flow of water and sugars to the plant. The crimped cover crop is folded down parallel to the ground forming a dense mat on the soil surface effectively forming a nice mulch layer for weed and erosion control. Tarping is recommended after crimping to ensure complete termination of the cover crop.
