(Garden Myrrh, Sweet Chervil) Herbaceous perennial native to Europe and Asia.  The plant exudes the fragrance of Anise from its ferny leaves, white terminal umbels and deeply grooved, resiny seeds.  The seeds are the part that earned this plant the name “myrrh,” as they are shellacked with resin.  Garden myrrh is a food plant used raw in salads.  Leaf, stem and/or young root may be simmered with other vegetables. The dried herb can be made into a good tea.  Traditional uses (TWM): nutritive, carminative, stomachic, blood cleansing.  Plant prefers rich garden soil of shade garden or woodland–part to full shade.  Sow in fall or early spring for germ in the spring.  These do require cold soil for germination, and germ is usually slow–6 weeks or so, sometimes as long as 11 months.  Very impressive and characteristic germinators.  Space 1 to 2 feet apart.  Flowers white, 2 to 4 feet tall.
